The light in my eye!!!

This amazing Loon, he or she.... sat quietly and calmly as the sun rose over the edge of this Island till the early morning sun bathed it with it's warmth. Most Loons will stretch their necks out to give themselves a lower profile, as if to hide but this bird kept it's head high. Double click on the photo and you will see the sun reflecting in it's very red eye....they say the color helps them see better when they dive to the depths in search of food....

Beautiful! I'm saddened that I don't see loons very often on Fairy Lake, I guess it's too busy.

You can never take too many pictures said...

Yes there are fewer and fewer Loons with high boat traffic and contaminants causing the eggs to break so easily....we have heard less Loons this year at the trailer site on Horn Lake....these birds were photographed on Oak Lake near the Kawartha's ....it was a thrill to find 4 nesting pairs, and one bachelor Loon who was huge!!!!
